My Vision

We are fortunate people. We live in a beautiful part of the State of Michigan. The neighborhoods and homes we are blessed to live in are surrounded by open fields and wooded areas. Outdoor enthusiasts enjoy water sports at Stony Creek and jogging or biking along the Macomb Orchard Trail. We are close to many amenities but distant enough to enjoy our peace.  People are friendly. Crime is low.

Change is inevitable and some change (like growth in commercial tax base) is essential.  However, as a community changes and evolves, it has a choice of doing it in a positive way or in a negative way. Aggressive growth without regard to schools, road, emergency services, sewer, and other infrastructure serves no one but developers and ambitious politicians. Congestion, crime, service issues, and real estate boom/busts caused by excessive and poorly planned development is not the way we want to go. Loss of the orchards and the very beauty that draws people to our area serves no one but developers and politicians. There’s a better way.

I believe Washington residents, including those living in the Village, understand the need to achieve a balance where the best of both worlds can be brought together:

• A small town atmosphere where theatre, art, community events and culture flourish.

• Where shops, fine dining, and family dining and other amenities are available.

• Where high-quality housing is provided primarily in low to moderate density so that infrastructure is not over-taxed.

• Where the regulatory environment encourages, rather than discourages, agri-tourism, farming, ranching and related businesses that fit our culture and lifestyle.

• Where business is welcomed and encouraged and artificial barriers to success are removed.

• Where residents can still drive home on uncongested roads, live in spacious subdivisions, send their kids to quality schools and avoid the crime that goes with “city” living.

• Where residents can count on their leadership to reflect the ethical values of the community and pursue the best interests of local residents and businesses first.

• Where taxes are controlled by proper fiscal management, controlling costs, collaborating with surrounding communities and avoiding unnecessary capital projects.

• Where the town has BOTH a character of its own AND has a place amongst the surrounding communities that creates an overall “Northern Macomb” character.

Let's work together to maintain the great things about this area while managing the ever changing landscape. Working together we can help Washington find its place in the Northern Macomb identity without losing sight of what it is individually.
